IUBMB Nomenclature database

The IUBMB Nomenclature database is composed of Enzyme Nomenclature, with a classified list of characterised enzymes, and the full text of all nomenclature recommendations prepared by the Nomenclature Committee of IUBMB. For additional recommendations prepared by the IUPAC-IUBMB Joint Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature see http://www.chem.qmul.ac.uk/iupac/. The Enzyme Nomenclature list is an amplified and updated version of the 1992 edition. It currently contains details of over 3700 enzymes. Many entries are illustrated by reaction diagrams and references now include the title of the paper and where possible a link to PubMed. The other nomenclature recommendations include those for multiple forms of an enzyme, multienzymes, enzyme kinetics, biochemical thermodynamics, incompletely specified nucleic acid sequences, junctions and branchpoints in nucleic acids, electron transport proteins, membrane transport proteins and translation factors. There is a search facility which can be of the whole site or just enzymes or a selected class of enzyme e.g. EC 2 transferases. The database may be accessed at http://www.chem.qmul.ac.uk/iubmb/.
